Flux Blends
An initial step in the project was to mix various proportions of feldspars and frits to see how these fluxes melted at cone 04, cone 6 and cone 9. These melt tests would serve as a guide to adjust melt levels. As materials, they were not easy to manipulate and fired into blobs.
Porcelain Slip and Feldspar mixes
One of our first series of tests was to mix cone 9 Porcelain slip with various feldspars. Because we were using such small amounts it would have been difficult to measure out the deflocculant to add to dry ingredients so we calculated the the weight and added 145g liquid slip to 100g of dry feldspar for a 50/50 blend. “belleek” and Parian
We tested Belleek and Parian recipes using various frits and fired to various temperatures just to see what kind of results we might get! Click on to see the recipe and the results.
